How to get there

Tartu, the second-largest city in Estonia, is well-connected by various modes of transportation. You can reach Tartu by car, bus, train, or even by plane via Tartu Airport, which offers limited flights.

If traveling from Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, you can take a direct bus or train, both offering frequent and comfortable services. The journey typically takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. For those driving, the road between Tallinn and Tartu is well-maintained, and the trip by car takes approximately two hours.

From Riga, Latvia, Tartu can also be accessed by bus, with the journey taking around 4 hours.

From Vilnius and Riga you can also travel to Tartu by train.

Local transport

Once you arrive in Tartu, the city’s compact layout and excellent public transport system make it easy to explore on foot, by bike, electric scooter, or by using local buses.

Parking

Parking in a city centre has a fee, but you will find free parking spaces for cars and tourist buses nearby. There are also several multi-storey car parks in the centre of Tartu.
